DHEC is holding a public hearing to provide information and accept comments on the proposed Southern Mine-King Tract in Charleston County. Southpit, LLC has applied to DHEC for a permit to mine sand at this location on Seewee Road, approximately three miles southwest of Awendaw, SC. The permit application includes a proposed reclamation plan to restore the site to a pond, woodlands, and grassland/fields after mining activities have concluded.  

DHEC staff will be available prior to the public hearing, beginning at 5:00 PM, to answer questions.

This is an opportunity to provide DHEC with comments and information about the proposed mine. Interested persons are encouraged to come learn more, submit comments, and ask questions.
