On November 14, 2019 at 6:00 PM, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control
(DHEC) will hold a public hearing regarding the proposed Edisto Mine (permit application # I-
002228) in Colleton County. The public hearing will be held in the cafeteria of the Cottageville
Elementary School located at 648 Peirce Road in Cottageville, SC 29435. The public hearing is
an opportunity for the public to provide DHEC their comments, views, and information about the
application being considered. The public hearing is formal and provides the opportunity for
interested persons to have their comments recorded by a court reporter. Both oral and written
comments will be accepted. Beginning at 5:00 PM, DHEC will be available prior to the hearing
to answer questions.

MC Dirt Company, LLC has applied for a permit to mine sand and sand/clay at a site in Colleton
County (TMS 086-00-00-005). The proposed Edisto Mine site is approximately 6.8 miles
northeast of Cottageville, SC. Specifically, the site is located 1.4 miles south-southwest of the
junction of SC Secondary Highway S-15-38 (Peirce Road) and SC Primary Highway 61
(Augusta Highway). The site is east and adjacent to Peirce Road approximately 0.15 miles
south of its junction with Serendipity Lane. A proposed reclamation plan to restore the site to a
lake has been submitted with the application.

The public is encouraged to review the mine permit application documents to prepare for the

Anyone interested is welcomed to come and learn about the proposed operation and take the
opportunity to have their comments recorded by a court reporter. Written comments will also be
accepted.
