As of Thursday afternoon, all forecast regions are trending towards a code green finish with the exceptions of Charleston Tri-County and the Upstate, which are trending towards code yellow. On Friday, an upper level ridge will keep hold of the current conditions to carry over into the morning. Overcast skies are to be expected while the wind is a lowly light breeze from the Southeast direction through the day. Slightly higher wind values from the sea breeze will set up in the coastal regions. The high atmospheric moisture content will be similar to what has been experienced this week. A storm system moving in from the West in the latter half of the day is a real possibility, but there is some uncertainty on the location and timing of this event. In this case, the earlier the better for air quality. The excessive cloud coverage, moisture, and late day rain chances should be enough to stave off increased levels of ozone production despite relatively poor dispersion characteristics. Overall, all forecast regions are projected to peak in code GREEN for surface-level ozone.
