Orthodontic Program
The Orthodontic Program provides orthodontic services to children under the age of 21 with certain craniofacial anomalies.
Eligibility
Residents of South Carolina are eligible if they have severe craniofacial anomalies and are:
- Enrolled on the CRS program and begin orthodontia services prior to the individual's 18th birthday; or
- Under the age of 21 and Medicaid enrolled.
Covered Conditions and Diagnoses
Severe craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft lip and/or plate progrnathism, Crouzon's Syndrome, Apert's Syndrome, Condylar Aplasia, Treach-Collins Syndrome, or a severe mid-face and growth related skeletal deficiency.
Covered Services
Orthodontic services such as diagnostic records, braces, monthly maintenance, and retainers up to the Program's allowable limits.
Services Not Covered
The Orthodontic Program does not provide dental services or oral surgeries; however, these services may be available through the CRS program or through Medicaid.
Orthodontic Providers
The Orthodontic Program utilizes orthodontists who hold a license to practice the specialty for Orthodontics issued by the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry.
