- Every South Carolinian should be able to breathe smoke free air
- Every South Carolinian should have the resources and empowerment to quit smoking
- Every South Carolina teen should grow up knowing that the best way to avoid the risks of smoking is never to start
- No South Carolinians should suffer from the effects of smoking or secondhand smoke because of the color of their skin, the neighborhood in which they grow up, or the amount of money in their bank account
Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of disease and premature death in South Carolina. Currently, almost 26 percent of SC adults smoke cigarettes and more than a third of the state’s high school students report having smoked within the past 30 days.
The key word is “preventable.” Our dependence on tobacco is something we can beat – something that we’ve got to beat. The Division of Tobacco Prevention and Control, along with its partners, is working hard to make South Carolina a healthier place to live and work and a healthier place in which our children can grow up.
Whether you’re interested in making your home, your work, your family, your favorite restaurant or yourself smoke free, you’ll find answers to your questions here and on our partners’ websites. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, give us a call.
