OCRM Permitting
In 1977, the South Carolina Coastal Tidelands and Wetlands Act was passed which charges DHEC-OCRM with the responsibility to protect the quality of the coastal environment and to promote the economic and social improvement of the coastal zone. DHEC-OCRM must balance the public's desire to utilize South Carolina's natural resources while protecting environmental quality. DHEC-OCRM's responsibility, as implemented under the Regulations, is to ensure that impacts to these resources are minimized.
