Why should I report recycling efforts?

It’s smart business to recycle. It’s also smart business to report your recycling activities. Reporting is easy. Keep track of what and how much you recycle so you can report your recycling efforts.

The information collected from companies such as yours allows the state to accurately measure South Carolina's recycling rate, recognizing that it is the state's goal to recycle 35 percent of its municipal solid waste. In addition, compilation of the data allows the state to identify recycling markets in need of expansion, gauge disposal capacity and make effective solid waste management decisions.

You can submit your organization’s data on-line. It is a two-step process. First, as the business entity, you will need to register to obtain a user ID and password. Once you register, you will receive a confirmation e-mail that will require you to click on a link to activate your account. Once that is active, you will be able to login and enter the amount of material that was recycled in fiscal year 2008 -- July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.

Click here to get started and complete a reporting survey. All on-line surveys must be completed by Monday, October 6, 2008.

Do your part. Recycle and report.

NOTE: All information submitted is treated confidentially. This data will go directly into the county report that is submitted to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control as required. Individual businesses and the amount recycled are never reported – only totals by material and county.
