Estill Elementary students selected for All-Health Team
COLUMBIA – Estill Elementary School has been selected as an All-Health Team winner for its Water Works project, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“The primary purpose of the project is to teach the students about the importance of drinking water and the impact that it has on your body,” said Egeria Bostick, a fourth grade teacher at Estill Elementary. “The project also promotes nutrition, the importance of exercise, and proper hydration before and after exercise.
Bostick said the students created songs and posters to teach about the importance of drinking water.
“If students develop the habit of drinking water, physical activity and good nutrition as a child, the trend will continue as they grow into adults,” Bostick said. “This will help reduce the risk of various health issues due to the lack of drinking water and bad nutritional habits.”
For being named to the All-Health Team, Estill Elementary’s Water Works project will receive a $500 grant, t-shirts and other All-Health Team items, recognition on the All-Health Team Web site and a television spot on WIS-TV in Columbia.
DHEC and WIS-TV sponsor the All-Health Team. Each month, the partnership recognizes an individual or youth group promoting health in their community.
