DHEC will continue to work with the EPA as it nears completion of the initial phase of cleanup that includes seven (7) residential properties on Pecan Drive with the highest amount of PCB contamination. This initial action addresses the first tier of properties and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2017.
On July 18, 2017, DHEC received notification from the EPA that additional funding had been approved for removing soil at seven (7) Tier II occupied residential properties with the highest concentrations of PCB contamination. The additional work will also include removing playground equipment and soil within Huckleberry Park, which is considered a Tier II area. The additional funding will bring the total cleanup project cost to $1,993,200.00. This work is expected to be completed in fall 2017.
