K-8 Curriculum Supplement and Training
"Action for a Cleaner Tomorrow: A South Carolina Environmental Curriculum Supplement" ("Action") is a national award-winning kindergarten through eighth grade, activity-based, interdisciplinary curriculum supplement. Developed by teachers and the Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling in conjunction with the S.C. Department of Education and others, "Action" can serve as a starting place for introducing basic environmental education in the classroom.
The curriculum supplement is correlated to the state's science standards. The current edition, featuring 16 lessons, includes the most frequently used lessons by teachers. Each lesson provides learning objective, background and teacher preparation info. (See this sample lesson - "Recycling 101".)
"Action" is available only as part of a FREE three-hour training provided by the Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling. To schedule a training or learn more about the "Action" workshops, call 1-800-768-7348.

The Green Driver Project
"The Green Driver Project" provides an overview of the environmental impact of driving for students in high school driver education classes. Students learn the importance of used motor oil recycling, related air, water and energy issues regarding the proper management of their vehicles, litter prevention and safety. Green Driver presentations are often taught in conjunction with "Action in the Classroom for High School Environmental Science."
